Reiki Explained
Reiki is a spiritually guided form of energy healing, originating from Japan. (We have founder and Tendai Buddhist Mikao Usui to thank for bringing this healing modality back into recognition). Rei means 'Universal' and Ki is 'life energy'. It works with the body's main energy centres (chakras) and channels (meridians). Ki is the life force energy in every living being, whether they are human, animal or plant, that flows through these chakras and meridians. Reiki is channelled from source/ universe/ God, and through to the reiki practitioners hands. Reiki can heal on all levels, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Some examples include reducing stress, anxiety, relieving physical pain from injuries or illness, and bringing a clients energy back in balance, so that spiritual growth and personal development can occur. Clients will often feel very calm and relaxed after a treatment, and have insights or inspiration in how to work through their problems, no matter the context.
I'm doubtful, will reiki work for me?
It is very important to understand that reiki is powerful, yet gentle. Healing time varies from person to person, and many factors need to be considered, such as how long the issue has been going on, a persons willingness to heal, and how much healing energy their body is ready to accept. Reiki will always go the source of the problem, and so does not cover up symptoms in the same manner that typical medication/ drugs will do. Therefore sometimes you may feel worse before you feel better, which is a great sign the old unwanted energy is being cleared from your body.
You do not have to be a believer to benefit from reiki healing, and although it is spiritual in nature it is not attached to any one religion. Anyone can benefit, it is here for us all. It is also essential to understand that reiki is a complimentary therapy, it is not to be used to replace modern medicine and is there to assist with healing. When treatments are done alongside traditional healthcare it will help speed up healing time.

Are there any risks?
There is extremely little risk with reiki, as it is an intelligent energy and will know what the client needs help with the most. It can be guided by the practitioner using intention and focus over one area or can flow through the whole body, seeking where it is needed. The only precautions to consider would be if someone has a pacemaker and it may interfere with the electrical energy from this, or if someone is diabetic and needs to check their blood sugar levels and adjust to this accordingly as the body comes back into balance.
